Peace Beautiful Ones!

Spring has finally arrived, and I am ready for her vibe. I love the warmth and promise of new beginnings, and it’s #NationalPoetryMonth!

Hoping all is well with you as you embrace the day. Just a quick share on things that are happening in my creative realm. New music and collaborative projects are in progress! I’ve been in the studio working and in the theater on a few things that I think will soothe and groove you. Expect new releases between now and the beginning of summer 2017. Can’t wait to share the details and the artists…so excited…stay tuned.

New music coming soon from Ska-lla Records: “Never Say Never,” with award-winning composer, singer-songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist Derrik Jordan (Worldsoul Records), gifted Senegalesese musician, singer-songwriter Donald Boucal, and yours truly Tantra-zawadi. “Never Say Never” will be available on most popular stores such as iTunes, XBOX Music, Google Play Music, Napster and more.

This song came together in Senegal, a few years ago while Derrik and I were traveling and performing with The Senegal-America Project. Donald’s French lyrics, guitar and soulful voice, met with my spoken words, and inspired Derrik to create this soul stirring composition. The result is #NeverSayNever, a captivating message of love.

Big thanks to Derrik Jordan, Donald Boucal, The Senegal-America Project, Tony Vacca, Massamba Diop, Jean Butler, Espace SOBOBADE, Monocles & Slezz and Ska-lla Records.

When I visited Senegal earlier this year with the Senegal-America Project, we recorded two videos for our latest CD “Evolution of the Vibe.” The videos, filmed by by Wantd, music composed and produced by Tony Vacca (for World Rhythms Productions), with poetry (Pelhorinho) written and performed by Abiodun Oyewole (The Last Poets) and (African Embrace) by Tantra-zawadi, including song lyrics by Bideew Bou Bess. “Pelhorinho” https://youtu.be/e_at5CW5DGg, and “African Embrace” https://youtu.be/OvZB1OCR7Vk are both available for viewing now on YouTube. Big thanks to Tony Vacca (co-founder of The Senegal-America Project) for making these videos a reality, and for bringing together some of the most talented and exciting artists to create with. Big thanks to Rescue Poetix for her beautiful spoken words in the background on African Embrace. We truly appreciate you!

Tantra-zawadi and Lupe
Get ready for a new installment of the staged reading “To Face It,” from the novel by Lupe Family. This one-woman staged reading performed by Tantra-zawadi, explores the depth of personal pain along with the politics, betrayal, sexism, racism and love in the lives of our three main characters in the U.S.A. I don’t want to give it away, but you will see a shift from previous readings. This performance will offer a glimpse from a black male perspective. It’s intense, riveting and honest. The event takes place on Sunday, May 7th at the WOW Cafe Theater, 59-61 East 4th Street (between Bowery and Second Avenue) in New York City. Doors open at 5:30pm and the performance begins promptly at 6:00pm. Admission is $15.00 (sliding scale…no one will be turned away). One night only followed by an artist/audience talk back. Hope to see you there.

Thanks so much for stopping by and for your beautiful support. See you out there!
